Hatchet (2006)

Director: Adam Green
Writer: Adam Green
Cast: Joel Moore, Deon Richmond, Kane Hodder
MPAA Rating: R
Running Time: 84 min.
Score: 5 out of 10

The tagline for this movie really says it all: "It's not a remake. It's not a sequel, and it's not based on a Japanese one."

A group of tourists on a boat tour through a supposedly haunted bayou in Louisiana learn the horrific local legend of Victor Crowley a horribly disfigured man who was accidentally killed with a hatchet by his own father.  As fate would have it, their boat sinks and the tourists have to make their escape from the bayou alive and in one piece.

The guys behind this indie-slasher obviously knew what kind of movie that they were trying to make and knew that they could not take themselves too seriously. Deliciously gorey... the FX guys obviously had a lot of fun thinking up ways to kill people. Sadly, it was also kinda dumb and as has been the case lately, the ending was pretty sub-par.

All things being equal... it was worth a watch and I had fun with it. You can't go wrong with Kane Hodder as the bad guy and Tony Todd and Robert Englund making cameos.
