Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007)

Director: Tim Hill
Cast: Jason Lee, David Cross
MPAA Rating: PG
Running Time: 92 min.
Score: 3 out of 10

Corny jokes and cheesy one liners are okay... even funny, when coming from the mouths of anthropomorphic rodents. Even a poorly written script can be at least a bit entertaining. Unfortunately, when you attempt to have your live action human actors deliver corny jokes and cheesy one liners from the same horrid script you just end up with a lot of really awful and unfunny scenes. I'm sorry, but if I had to listen to Jason Lee shout "ALVIN!!" one more time I was going to throw up! The sad part is that I wanted to like this one. I grew up listening to the Alvin and the Chipmunks records and watching the cartoons... and I really like Jason Lee. Let's face it, he made Mallrats and is the only reason a show like My Name is Earl is even remotely funny. Sadly, this is just another example of Hollywood attempting to cash in on a classic property and failing to capture what made it classic in the first place.
